Greedy

Hello people. Are you strong? Do you have good muscular endurance? Are you fast? How's your balance? How's your core? Do you have good cardiovascular endurance? Are you flexible? If you answered yes to one or more of these well that's great, what I want for me and for you is for you to answer yes to all of these questions. (And mean it.)

Too often guys go to the gym and do old standard bodybuilding routines. Back and bis, chest and tries, shoulders, legs. You know what I'm talking about, these guys sit around for 3 minutes, lift something between 4 and 12 times, and sit around again. They wear cut off shirts and think they are super awesome. Ladies, you've seen guys do this. They spend as much time talking and trying to get you to notice them as they do working out. Guys, you can't argue, you know you do it. Too often women go to the gym, park themselves on an elliptical, grab a magazine and just ride their lives away. Maybe chat with a friend, send some texts, and try to NOT notice the guys who are doing the aforementioned workouts. Ladies, this is no better than what the guys are doing. Now gentlemen, your workout is probably going to stimulate your muscles a bit, might make you sore, and you'll eventually see some aesthetic results. Ladies, you might break a sweat, work your legs a little and lose 1lb or 2 over the next 6 months. I don't want to discourage anyone from doing these workouts, because it's certainly better than nothing.

However, I am greedy, for me and for you. I want you to be good at everything and be healthy and fit in all domains. I want you all to be strong, and fast, with more than capable core strength and stamina for days. The only way to do this is by incorporating all walks of fitness into your routines. Guys, add some sprints, do some Olympic lifts, take a yoga class, expand your horizon. Just because you look decent (even if you look really good) doesn't automatically mean you are in good shape or healthy. Ladies, don't be afraid of the dumbells and barbells. Pick them up, use them, get sore, learn how to squat and deadlift properly. They have just as much benefit for you as they do the scary, jacked dude in the corner with no neck who thinks your checking him out, when in fact your watching to make sure his face doesn't explode as he tries to lift that Volkswagon off the floor. Also ladies please don't worry about "getting big." These guys I was just talking about have been trying to "get big" their whole lives, and its not that easy, so until you actually start to pack on unwanted muscle, just trust me and move some weight around. You will feel better and stronger and burn more calories. It's a nice feeling.

Do not stick to the norms, you aren't confined to working out any sort of way. Be greedy and get good at everything. I want you to be able to go for a 2 mile hike, play a game of volleyball at a bbq, take a yoga class, do a cartwheel, bench press your bodyweight, swim 5 laps without drowning, juggle chainsaws, and whatever else you can think of! Go! Get more fit, more athletic, better in every way, try to be a better version of yourself today than you were yesterday and better tomorrow than you are today, the cycle never stops! Good luck!
