Hey their people, how awesome is the weekend!? I mean it is so frickin awesome. Friday work ends: you get that night and two more days to not work and have some fun. Everyone loves getting out of work, meeting someone for dinner and drinks or just drinks, and carrying that through the rest of the weekend. Fun, social activities are what the weekend is built for.
Now here is where things can get tricky. You’ve had such a good week, you worked out at least 3 times, maybe more, you have been feeling really great about it, you did pretty good with your diet, I mean you weren’t 100%, and was it 2 peanut butter cups or 3 on Thursday? Oh, who’s counting anyway??? Bottom line is, you were really on track this week, with good diet and good workouts. Are you going to ruin all of those 5 days of hard work for 2.5 days of fun and by throwing the rules out the window? Well, please don’t! Come on, I even said please.
During the week things are much easier. You are on a schedule, you generally have to plan for lunch by either making it the night before or at least thinking about what you're going to buy while your at work. You have your workouts scheduled and planned (right?), and you generally stick to your guns. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t want you to zap the fun out of your weekend. Lord knows it's when I’m doing whatever cheating I’m going to do as well, but let's at least try to minimize the damage. If you know you're going out on Friday or Saturday night, try to eat really clean leading up to that. Make your breakfast and lunch really healthy, and snack appropriately. This way you’ll at least soften the blow of the fried calamari, French fries, and butter smothered steak that you're going to eat at night. (My mouth is literally watering as I write this.) Also, if you know you're really going to go hard -- maybe you have dinner plans both nights and one night is your friend's birthday (Happy Birthday friend!), and you're going to add to that dinner with maybe 2 or 6 glasses of wine, or 5 beers and some mixed drinks (good luck in the morning) -- well then why don’t you force yourself to get up on Saturday morning and go for a run? It’s a nice day, and you don’t really want to spend it in the gym, so load up that fancy new iPod and go pound some pavement in your Nike Free Runs!
All I’m really trying to say here is don’t throw away all of your hard work during the week. Make smart decisions and keep your progress in mind. You’re obviously a highly intelligent person; I mean, you’re reading this blog, so you have to be pretty smart. So use your head: keep your eye on the prize!
I'm lovin' on this blog! It's like you speak to me directly with references like "2 or 6 glasses of wine" - let's keep it real, right?! You’re really funny (which helps with this topic), especially since I can hear your voice in my head. Keep up the good work, you motivated me to walk 4 miles BEFORE work this morning! Thanks for spreading your knowledge for free. - Michelle
ReplyDeleteWay to go Pat! I agree with Michelle - 2 or 6 glasses of wine. I promise not to go to crazy this weekend. I'll just take out that photo of you I keep in my wallet when I'm in doubt.
ReplyDeleteminimizing the damage is the key... i prefer to have a nice cocktail (barcardi and diet) instead of beer when I go out. If I am craving beer, i try to have just one (most likely a Guinness) and then switch to bacardi diets......
