When trying to execute your plan towards the leaner, meaner version of you, it is oftentimes overwhelming. I mean, I have high expectations for you. If it was up to me, your entire diet would change, and your workout schedule would probably double. Now, I am aware that this is not always realistic. So let's start small, shall we?
First and foremost, make one healthy change to your life, something positive. It can be as simple as removing soda or dessert from your daily routine. Another good easy one that takes up a lot of calories is cutting out alcohol during the week. I'm talking about cutting it out all together. Yes, 100%. Trust me, you can do it and you will live. You can also make a change from a bagel in the morning to eggs and a banana (a fine breakfast choice if I do say so myself), or you can add something to your life, such as a multivitamin, or making sure you eat protein with every meal, and just work on integrating this change into your daily routine until it becomes as natural as brushing your teeth.
Make sure you track your change and benefits you see from this change. If you lose weight, or your clothes start becoming loose, these are generally good signs that you are on the right track.
You can also make a small change to your exercise schedule. Add a mile jog to your warm up, or start attending a yoga class once a week. Whatever it is, make the change a small, manageable thing. That way you are setting yourself up for success. Whatever you pick to change, make sure you stick with it. We aren't working towards establishing a passing trend. Write it down somewhere you will see it daily, and tell a lot of people about it as well. Tell the type of people who will ask you about it a lot and will say: "Hey, how's that new spin class going for you?" This way you will have to answer that question, and you will feel compelled to stick to your plan.
Once you really incorporate this new practice into your life, feel free to add another, maybe something a little more challenging or strict. Eventually you'll find you are living a nice healthy, clean life and on your way towards...... wait for it......... A BETTER YOU!!!
Ok - I'll share mine but they're not necessarily small changes.... 1- I'm doing my first triathlon in June and have begun training for it (including buying a sick new 2010 Jamis Satellite Sport Femme) and 2- I started at Crossfit Southie today and will be working out there 2x per week as well. Pretty massive changes to my workout schedule!! Psyched!!
